Rauchbier Chili

Just a quick little post to share with you a really good time we had over the weekend.
We were invited to a party in which the dads had a bit of a chili cook off.

I have not made chili in over 20 years so I had to experiment for a week or so before the event. Now I don’t think anyone in my family will be eating chili for another 20 years.

Of course my chili had to have beer in it but which beer? I experimented with several and settled for a German Rauchbier (smoke beer), Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock. The chili was made with Black Angus Beef cubes not ground beef. It was served with smoked Gouda Cheese, Fresh Cilantro, Green Onions and Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock Bier.

It was a wonderful afternoon and evening and a good time was had by all. There were 8 completely different chilies there and they were all very good. No, I did not win but I also did not take much home so someone must have liked it even if Fr. Olson our judge didn’t.

Special thanks to food friends and gracious hosts for a wonderful day.

  1. Looks like your crockpot is from the 1700's or maybe the 1980's both way before my cooking years

  2. It's a cast iron Dutch Oven, not very old but well used.
